I admit that I did get up early and watch Princess Diana and Prince Charles wed. I am not so on top of things this time. But I can still catch up. I'll be visiting with Sourcebooks at their British Babes Book Brigade and learning.
They will be featuring over a dozen British women authors this week. Some I have read and many who are new to me. I've shown a few of their book covers below. There are many more featured at the above link.
Sourcebooks is also giving away prizes every day this week on the British Babes Book Bridgade Facebook page..
- The 1st place winner will get a William & Kate wedding memento (it is top secret for now (just like Kate’s dress J) but check the page out on Monday to find out – oh and they are all different so there will be a different memento each day). Along with that they also get their choice of three books from any of our British Book Babes.
- The 3rd place winner will have their choice of one book from any of our British Book Babes.
Sourcebooks has also offered me two books by Georgette Heyer to give away on my blog. To enter, you must leave a comment telling me either about your plans to watch the wedding on friday, or about your favourite British female author. This contest will remain open until Saturday at least. Contest open to Canadian and United States readers. Be sure that I have a means of contacting you.
Note: there will be two winners of one book each. Choice of book is up to Sourcebooks.
Thank-you to Sourcebooks for all the cover photos.

My plans to watch the wedding? Hmmm, probably just relaxing in pjs with my mom. :) It's really way too early to do much else. :P I'm really not a fan of William and Kate (partially because of jealousy) but still can't resist the temptation to be nosy! :P

Maybe I leave a comment here telling you about my favorite British Author which is Agatha Christie but I have about 50. I also love Elizabeth Chadwick, Helen Hollick and many others!
I will be watching the Royal Wedding also!

I set the alarm to get up for Charles and Diana's wedding, too.
But this time I am not intending to do so--just not all that interested. I am sure it will be replayed so much that I will see it all before the end of the day anyway.
I recently heard the Royal Wedding advertised as 'a once in a lifetime event'. Huh? Pretty sure I got up early to watch Diana's wedding oh so long ago..... However, I've 'been there, done that' so I'll sleep in and just watch the reruns for William's and Kate's wedding!
My favorite British female author is Jane Austen. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I hope to watch the wedding on tv.

What great reads! I remember watching Princess Di's wedding so I will set the alarm to watch Kate's. A friend is having a party breakfast but not sure if I will attend.
Thanks for the chance to win! Georgette Heyer is probably my favorite female British author. I love her regency books. They start to look especially appealing as exam season approaches... they're always my coping mechanism :)

Since I am in the US I will be DVR'ing the wedding and watching it once I get up that morning. Still very excited I just can't do a 4 a.m. wedding call with a toddler in the house who saps all Mommy's energy!
As for favorite British female author....hmmm...well Jane Austen of course and Charlotte Bronte along with George Eliot and of course Elizabeth Gaskell. Sorry got a little carried away...love British female authors. Modern wise...I really like Jill Mansell quite a bit.
Thanks for the Heyer giveaway!

I'll just stay up late here on the West coast and watch the whole thing. I'm thinking of even opening some champagne to celebrate with them. My oldest daughter wants to join me, which will be fun. I love a good wedding and I wouldn't miss this one for the world.
I'm currently reading "Arabella" by Georgette Heyer. She's the focus of one of my reading challenges this year. Thanks for hosting the giveaway! Email link is at my blog sidebar.
I'm recording the wedding on my DVR and will be trying to watch it during the day on Friday. Unfortunately I'll be out all morning, but hopefully I can sneak it in a bit in the afternoon. Otherwise it will be at night when the kids are in bed!
I love British authors. One of my favorite modern British authors is Elizabeth Chadwick. She writes superb historical fiction novels.
Thank-you for the giveaway!

It is the Saturday after the wedding and I am officially fed up with the US media coverage of the royal wedding. I am thinking of moving to a British Commonwealth country to escape America's obssesive(sp?) love of celebrity.
Oh, and my favorite British female author is...hmmm...well, there is no modern English writer I can think of...I do like Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, the Bronte sisters.
Of the modern writers, I prefer folks from Scotland and Ireland. I like Nuala O'Faolain from Ireland and Denise Mina from Scotland.
PS but as Craig Ferguson, the late night host says, to compare Scotland to Ireland or England is to think L.A. and Detroit are the same in America...
So, I guess, I shouldn't mention Irish and Scottish writers when you ask about English writers!
This contest is now closed. Winners to be announced.
