The Judas Strain by James Rollins

-Marco Polo and his missing fleet of 12 ships and hundreds of men
-SIGMA, a covert Government agency investigating a devastating die off of marine life off Christmas Island NW of Australia
-A mysterious message in "Angelic Script' in a renovated building in the heart of the Vatican
-A shadowy organization known as "The Guild"
-
How do these all fit together?
-
James Rollins deftly spins out the tale, carefully pulling the threads together and weaving them into a compelling read.
Loved the character of SIGMA agent Commander Gray Pierce. My favourite scene in the whole book occurs in the opening chapters at the close of is parents' 4Th of July celebrations. Guild operative Seichan has been shot and wipes out on her motorcycle in his parents' driveway and begs Gray for help. This sets up a situation where Gray's parents are drawn into the intrigue and are put at risk.
The story keeps getting better from this point. There are clues to follow and decipher and secret treasures to be found.
-
Oh yea,, did I mention that Gray and his SIGMA fellow agents must save the world from a potentially devastating plague?
-
Once you pick up "The Judas Strain" you won't want to put it down.
