This 1973 novel is one of Dean Koontz' earlier works.
Susan Harris has survived a lot in her life, abuse by first her father and then by her controlling husband. She has finally found peace and the strength to control her own destiny. One day the security system that controls her entire house starts to act upon its own. Susan soon becomes the pawn in a game being played out by a computer spawned entity that has selected her as the perfect woman.
The whole book is plot development. All the extras have been pared away to leave the story and only the story. We learn very little about Susan except what is essential to this story. We learn her job and how those skills helped her overcome this new terror, but we don't know much more about her.
We are left to question whether Susan has gained enough in her self therapy to survive the latest horrors being heaped on her.
This book was a very quick read. I started it on the way back from camping and finished it at home. A diverting read but thats about it. Not enough depth to really get into it. Good choice for a summer read that you don't want to have to pay too much attention to.
I got this book from the bookshelf at the range station where we were camping this weekend.

Thanks for the review of those two very diffferent books - this one and the previously posted Angelology. I've heard a lot said about both books but must admit that it was Anglology that was added to my wish list.
